Nenagh to Thurles road to close for emergency works

The main Nenagh to Thurles road at Latteragh (R498) will close from 8am on Wednesday, August 31, until 4.30pm on Friday, September 1, to accommodate emergency roadworks as part of the roadway has collapsed. A section of the same stretch of road was closed last year, also due to a road collapse. Diversions will be in place with R498 north bound traffic to divert at Currabaha Cross and travel to Dolla Village via Templederry on the L2261, L2124, L2122, R497 and then via the R499 from Dolla Village to re-join the R498 at Ballinamona Cross. R498 south bound traffic to divert at Ballinamona Cross and travel to Dolla Village via the R499 and then via the R497, L2122, L2124, L2261 to re-join the R498 at Currabaha Cross. Heavy goods vehicles are being advised to use the R502 and N62. The council recently agreed a route for the proposed roadworks scheme at Latteragh bends. It plans to formally proceed with public consulation on the €13m proposed scheme.
