Spanish students say 'Adios' to Cashel

For the past month some 42 Spanish students enjoyed the full Irish experience of living in Cashel. The teenagers came from the Basque region of Northern Spain to improve their English and to become part of the local community, with each student becoming a member of a Cashel family for the four weeks. They had a busy time in the City of the Kings with their mornings devoted to language study at St. John The Baptist school, and afternoons spent on activities at the Den in Cashel Rugby Club, with a final week at Camp Rockwell. All this came to an end with a farewell evening of entertainment at Halla Na Feile on Sunday 24th July. The event featured theatrical sketches in English directed by Maria Ó Shaughnessy, a set of dance routines and a disco. Also on display was a six-foot high graffiti-cube which some of the students had made with LSAD Third Year Art Student Cian Laffey. Spanish students have been coming to Cashel for a number of years and the host families are looking forward to inviting the 2017 cohort into their homes next year.
