UL Lecturer to give 1916 talk

As part of a series of initiatives to commemorate the centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising, the North Tipperary Monuments Committee shall host a lecture on Thursday, the 28th of January in the Nenagh Arts Centre at 8 p.m.

Delivered by Dr. Ruan O'Donnell, a Senior Lecturer in History at the University of Limerick, the talk is entitled “Commemorating the Struggle for the Irish Republic”, and will focus upon the events of the 1916 Easter Rising in North Tipperary. All are welcome to attend with admission being €5.

The Committee also recently launched a Facebook page. It includes photographs of the North Tipperary IRA volunteers, the War of Independence and the Civil War. It also features in-depth descriptions of said volunteers.

The majority of information contained within the community page was sourced from local historian Patrick Hackett’s important book, “In Bloody Protest”. To view the page in question, please visit: https://www.facebook.com/celebrating1916/
