County Under 21 A Hurling Semi- Final

The county U/21 (A) hurling semi final between Thurles Sarsfields and Arravale Rovers will take place this Saturday January 15th at 1:30pm in Clonmel Sportsfield.

Thurles Sarsfields will be hoping to reach their third final in a row having won the previous two county finals. 2010 was a year to remember for the club who retained the Dan Breen Cup for the second year running. Sarsfields also won the Minor ( A ) county title and the Junior( B) county title last year. They were recently voted the Munster Club of the Year for 2010 and also received the accolade for Senior Club of the Year in Mid Tipperary.

Thurles Sarsfields have five of the county U-21's that won last year's All- Ireland including county seniors stars Padraic Maher who captains the team and Michael Cahill. Best of luck to Sarsfields on Saturday.

These annual awards are in recognition of the above players outstanding contribution to their clubs over the past twelve months.

Also on the night the Hall of Fame Award will be presented to Michael Murphy who is a very worthy recipient of this award.

Over the coming weeks I will give you a brief reminder of the achievements of each of the award winners. This week we look at Aidan McCormack of Thurles Sarsfields – Young Hurler of the Year.

Aidan McCormack

It is hard to believe that Aidan is only eighteen years old and sitting his Leaving Certificate in June when you consider what he has won and achieved so far. Aidan is the holder of twelve mid titles and eleven county titles and if Thurles Sarsfiels win last year's county u-21 title he will have twelve county titles.

Aidan has won county titles at u-14, u-16, minor, u-21 and senior. He also has a Harty Cup medal and an All- Ireland Colleges medal won with Thurles C.B.S. Aidan was on last years Tipperary minor hurling team and scored three goals against Cork . He won Man of the Match awards in last years mid and county minor finals, scoring an incredible nineteen points in the minor county final.

To have played and won a county senior medal at such a young age is a major achievement. Aidan also played on the Sarsfields team that were defeated in the Munster senior final. No doubt we will be hearing a lot more about Aidan in the year's to come. Aidan is a worthy winner of Young Hurler of the Year for 2010.
