Loughmore Castleiney 0-15 Moycarkey Borris 0-12

Amid a tactical chess match the battle hardened Loughmore Castleiney outlasted Moycarkey Borris to emerge victorious in the opening Mid Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship Semi Final on Sunday afternoon in Holycross.

This was not an open and expansive game of hurling but it more than made up for this with both sides displaying heart and tenacity in abundance throughout and the added fire power in the Loughmore ranks reared its head when needed most in the second half. A three point blitz in as many minutes at the three quarter mark of proceedings chiselled out an advantage that Moycarkey were never able to recover from. John McGrath was first to register with a crisp effort off his right hand side from distance that effortlessly floated over. Just seconds later in the 44th minute Evan Sweeney gathered possession in a far tighter situation and just about managed to launch an effort off his right despite a converging army of defenders extending themselves to block. Finally Noel McGrath pointed a free from half way that was well within his compass to navigate the men in green and red into three point lead.
