A new month heralds the arrival of new championships as the hurling season commences this week with the opening rounds in the Premier 12 hurling leagues, next week the U14 championships will commence. We look forward to some interesting tussles along the way, culminating in divisional finals in August and September.

Best wishes to Ciarán Thorpe (Drom & Inch) who will represent the division in the county final of the U16 Poc Fáda this Saturday. In a change from the normal setting of Thurles Racecourse, this year the Galtee Mountains provides the backdrop as Ciarán sets out to win the title in the new venue this year. The meeting point will be the community centre in Lisvernane and Aherlow Gaa Club will be assisting. The senior poc fáda also takes place on the day, with Ciarán in the starting group at 11.30am. A commemorative county medal will be presented to winners of both competitions and should prove an enjoyable day out for anyone wishing to travel.

Saturday also sees the county football finals if the U14A, B and C take place, where hopefully we will be represented by Durlas Óg and Boherlahan-Dualla, though semi-finals not played at time of going to press.
