Last Saturday Cashel Community school girls had a magnificent win in the Ladies Junior Munster football final when they defeated Hazelwood College after a cracking match.
The game was played in the excellent Staker Wallace GAA Club pitch, Kilmallock .
Cashel had played the semi-final the previous Monday and there were fears that the team may not have been able to replicate the standard they showed coming through that match. However, any fears were quickly allayed as the girls stormed out of the blocks with early scores from the excellent Orla O’ Dwyer and Aoife Gahan. The girls were playing into a slight wind but it seemed to suit the team as their build up play was excellent. The Hazelwood girls struggled to break down a resolute defence led magnificently by Laura Connolly and the score at half time was Cashel 3-4 Hazelwood 1-2. In the second half the game settled down somewhat and both sides were guilty of missing some straightforward chances. Again however, Orla O’ Dwyer ledthe team with a fine goal and two excellent points to stretch the CCS lead. Hazelwood responded with an excellent goal and we were in for a nervy finish as Hazelwood piled on the pressure.
