Clean Ireland Recycling County
Intermediate Hurling Semi-Final
A Tom Meade point gave Moyne Templetuohy a deserved win over Newport when the sides met in a well contested Clean Ireland Recycling County Intermediate Hurling semi final at The Ragg last Sunday.
It was fitting that the midfielder picked up the winning score as he dragged Moyne back into the game after they played second fiddle to a spirited Newport who took an initial 1-5 to nil lead. But somewhere deep inside the souls of the Lisheensiders, they found the energy to ground out a famous win and they are back in the County Intermediate hurling final for the first time since 2004. Three points separated the teams at half time, 1-8 to 1-5. Now playing with the aid of the nice diagonal breeze Moyne cut the gap and Denis Kelly stepped forward to give his team the lead in the 48th minute. An Eoin Shinners free plus a point from play by the brilliant Odhran Floyd helped Newport recover the lead but Moyne drew level with another Kelly free and John hassett gave his team the lead two minutes from time. In an exciting finish, another Eoin Shinners free put the sides level but Tom Meade’s winners sealed victory.
