McGrath Oil Under-21B Football Final
Kickhams 1-14 Golden-Kilfeacle 0-13
Kickhams sprang a bit of a surprise in the final of the McGrath Oil under-21 B football final when they beat Golden-Kilfeacle by 1-14 to 0-13 at New Inn on Saturday evening. They had done the same in the semi-final when they overcame the favourites for the championship, Aherlow.
It didn’t appear that victory would be theirs twenty minutes into the first half, when Golden led by 6 points to 2, were moving with fine purpose and appeared to have everything under control.
But, they didn’t score after that and Kickkhams added 3 points in the remaining ten minutes to leave only a point between the sides at half-time on a scoreline of 6-5.
Golden dominated the third quarter but didn’t get much reward for their effort, scoring just two points. Kickhams had one point, a mighty effort from about fifty yards by their centrefield player, Gerry Horgan, to leave the score 8-6 entering the final quarter.
Kickhams had the best of the exchanges during this period and added three points during a good five-minute spell and went into the lead for the first time by 9-8.
