Allianz National Football League Division Three : Tipperary 0-12 Longford 0-12
A point from this Allianz National Football League Division Three game against Longford at Semple Stadium on Saturday evening was not enough to stave off relegation, but a battling Tipperary side deserved their first point in this year’s competition against the table-toppers Longford who secured promotion by virtue of the draw.
Tipp’s best performance of the competition came in adverse circumstances. Manager John Evans resigned a week previously and to add to their woes they played the last 20 minutes of the game a man short - Philip Austin, the team captain, was red-carded following an incident in the Longford goalmouth in which colleague Barry Grogan was injured. Not surprisingly then that caretaker manager Tommy Twomey was very pleased with his charges: “I am very pleased with the attitude of our players.
“They showed what was in them tonight. They deserved to get something from this game.
“We had lost our way for a while and lost our focus in doing what we are good at, but tonight we showed we are good enough to match the best in the division.
