In the U14A and U14C Football County Finals played in Dundrum on Saturday last there was no joy for our West champions as both Galtee Rvs and Sologhead despite giving their best had to settle for the runners up spot to their South Tipp opponents.
In the U14A Final a very slick Clonmel Commercials ran out convincing winners over Galtee Rvs while Kilsheelan/Kilcash proved far too strong for a Sologhead side that battled above their weight all the way to the finish in the U14C County Final.
Without taking anything away from Kilsheelans well deserved victory I found it extraordinary that in a thirteen a side competition that a team could arrive on with twenty four players which to me undermines the whole grading system within the county and allows little winning opportunities for genuine graded C clubs for which the grade was intended.
(See County Bord Na nOg notes for match reports on both games)
In the West U14 Football Shield final played in Sologhead, Arravale Rvs collected the silverware with a four point win over Knockavilla Kickhams while the U14 Plate final which is down for decision this Saturday June 15th will wrap up all football action in the Division with the clash of Lattin/Cullen and Golden/Kilfeacle, paving the way for
hurling championships in earnest which commenced on Thursday evening last June 6th with the opening rounds of the U12 Hurling competitions.
Congratulations to Shane Stapleton (Sean Treacys) who emerged the winner of the U16 Long Puck on Saturday which took place in the Galtee Mountains and now goes on to represent Tipperary in the Munster Final over the same course next Month.
Finally the best of luck to all boys and girls who are presently in the middle of state examinations.
