Juvenile News - On Saturday last Moycarkey Borris brought two U.10 squads to Leahy Park to play our own U.10’s in challenge matches. The conditions were ideal with the sun shining throughout, as the entertainment levels were high.
All players should be complimented on the outstanding efforts they put in on the morning. Both games were played with commitment and skill and no doubt the players will continue to improve as they gear up for U.12 championships next year. A special mention to the dedicated band of selectors, responsible for such games, without which none of this would be possible. Next Saturday our U.10’s travel to Thurles for blitz details of which will be circulated before the weekend.
West U.14 “A” Hurling Final Replay Cashel KC 0-4 Clonoulty 1-6
Cashel’s dream of capturing West glory was brought to an end on Wednesday evening last as Clonoulty proved just that a little bit better on the night. Cashel will look back with disappointment as they failed to match their display in the drawn game as Clonoulty showed more composure in front of goal when it mattered. With game level at half time 1-0 to Cashel’s three points this Final was very much alive. But in a second half in which Cashel could manage just point, Clonoulty’s ability to find scores was the only difference. Defeat is always a bitter pill to swallow but the panel of players and selectors can be proud of their efforts. There is nothing between the two sides and Cashel had their chances in the first game when they played to their potential. No doubt these sides will meet again in the future finals when we hope the end result will different.
Team: Danny Wade, Michael Morrissey, Ciaran Quinn. Briain Davern, Padraig Leamy, Lee Barry, Con Bonnar, Patrick Fahy, Eoghan Connolly, Jack Price, Brian Fitzpatrick (0-2), Ciaran Davern, Ross Bonnar, Colin Ryan (0-2), Ryan O’Sullivan.
West U.16 Hurling Championship
Cashel suffered a defeat to Clonoulty in the opening round of the championship. Cashel did begin the game well and wasted two excellent goal chances. Clonoulty did build a nice lead and held a commanding half time advantage 2-11 to 1-05. The second half saw more of the same as Clonoulty ran out convincing winners on the night. Best for Cashel were, Conor Devitt, Aaron McCormack and Jonathan Walsh. The championship format however sees Cashel go into the losers group where they play the losers of Arravale Rovers or Golden, on Thursday night at 6pm in Anacarty to stay alive in the championship.
West Junior B Hurling Cashel KC 2-15 Clonoulty 2-10
The Junior B’s battled back in the final twenty to grind out an impressive victory over Clonoulty. When Clonoulty goaled after three minutes of the second half it looked as if Cashel were destined for defeat trailing 2-08 to 0-6. But the pack was re-shuffled and fresh legs introduced and this had the desired affect. Timmy Moloney showed plenty of experience crashing a 21metre free to the net and buried another soon after. Subs Gavin Manton and Robert White landed important points while William Fitzell began to dominate around the centre of the field aided by the young and impressive Cathal Minogue. In defence Jonathan Kennedy was solid as a rock with Paddy Morrissey, PJ Mooney and Gavin Browne always in the thick of the action. Phillip Taylor at centre forward also caught the eye. So with one more league game to play against Sean Treacys the mentors and players can now start planning for a West Semi date in a couple of weeks time. Thanks to all the Cashel supporters who made it to Dundrum to support the panel of players, very much appreciated.
Team: Daniel Murphy, Paddy Morrissey, David Delahunty, Christopher Ryan, PJ Mooney, Jonathan Kennedy, Gavin Browne, Michael K O’Dwyer, Cathal Minogue, Robert Anglim (0-1), Philip Taylor (0-2), William Fitzell (0-1), Alan Coughlan, Timmy Moloney (2-9), Niall Fitzgerald. Subs: Gavin Manton (0-1) for Michael K O’Dwyer, Robert White (0-1) for Alan Coughlan, Cormac O’Dwyer for Robert Anglim & Shane Murphy for Niall Fitzgerald.
The very best of luck on Sunday next to Tipperary Panel members Simon Delaney and Dylan Fitzell as Tipp hope to defeat Dublin and become All Ireland Minor champs. The progress has been steady this year and the team has a fantastic opportunity, and again good luck to the lads on a very proud day for them, their families and club.
