The division got off to the best possible start last Saturday in Dr. Morris Park with terrific performances from our U16 and U15 football panels in the interdivisional football series, resulting with the first silverware of the season going the Mid way as they retained the U16 crown.

First up was that U16 squad under the stewardship of Kieran Healy and Andy Ryan who took on the North in their semi-final. The Mid led 2-02 to 1-03 at the break and held on for a one goal win.

U16 Interdivisional Football Final – Mid 1-05 South 0-06. So the scene was set for the final against South and what a game it turned out to be. Both sides went at it vigorously from the off with Mid playing against a very strong wind in the first half, going in at half time four behind.

However, the tenaciousness and unity of this Mid side laid a tremendous platform to build on, a platform of desire to win as they drove on in the second half with the bit firmly between their teeth. Score by score they clawed their way back into it.

Going into the closing stages Mid wonderfully worked the ball through the field to find Fairbrother outside the twenty metre line and in writing the final chapter in this contest he stood alone and showed coolness and accuracy of skill by burying the ball to the net close on full time to put Mid in front, a lead they would not relinquish. Captain T.J. Butler received the cup from County Chairman, Joe Kennedy much to the delight of his team mates.
