CSHC Toomevara 3-21 Kilruane MacDonagh’s 1-26
Kilruane MacDonagh’s 1-26
Kilruane MacDonagh’s will not appreciate being reminded of this one. Following a disappointing opening half Kilruane trailed Toomevara by eleven points (0-8 to 1-16) with twenty-seven minutes to play, but an extraordinary rally saw the MacDonagh’s lead 1-25 to 1-21 in the second minute of injury time. There was still a two-goal sting left in Toome however and in the 64th minute David Nolan booted home a game-clinching goal at MacDonagh Park, Nenagh.
Toome raced into a 0-6 to 0-3 lead before Eoin Brislane, who appeared to take an inordinate number of steps, buried a left-handed effort for the opening goal of the game in the ninth minute. A flare up between the sides in the 26th minute saw Toome’s Brian McCormack and Kilruane’s Brian O’Meara shown straight red cards. Toome pressed for late scores in the opening half and were rewarded with an eleven-point interval lead (1-15 to 0-7).
The sides traded efforts in the opening minutes of the second half before Kilruane exploded into devastating life. Indeed, a whole series of exceptional scores left just a goal between them (0-18 to 1-18) with ten minutes to play. Colm Canning responded for Toome, but in the 52nd minute Kilruane plundered an Eoin Williams goal.
A Ken Dunne free forced the Greyhounds back into a lead, but within a minute points from Kieran Cahill and Mark O’Leary handed Kilruane a 1-21 to 1-20 lead. Further point from Kieran Cahill and a Mark O’Leary brace opening a four-point gap. Eoin Brislane and Thomas Cleary then traded points in the 62nd minute to leave four between them (1-25 to 1-21).
Toome, however, were far from finished. Ken Dunne beat Thomas Williams with a rasping left-handed effort in the 63rd minute. Then, just seconds later, David Nolan won possession in the full-forward line and kicked a famous three-pointer (3-21 to 1-25). A late Kieran Cahill free offered Kilruane little consolation.
