Ballingarry held Carrick Davins scoreless in the second half at Monroe on Sunday to win their second game in a week.

Davins led at the break 1-7 to 0-4 after playing with the galeforce wind.

Gerry Robinson opening the scoring with a long range point after two minutes and within a minute Donal Shelley after a great run levelled with a great point on the run for Ballingarry.

In the 6th minute a fortuitous goal for the Davins when Shane Butler was on the end of a long ball dropped into the square to give James Logue no chance. Within a minute Stephen Moroney added a point from play and in the 11th minute Willie O’Dwyer got off the mark with a wonderful strike. Stephen Moroney added 2 points for Davins in the 12th and 14th minutes to leave the score at the end of the first quarter Carrick Davins 1-5 Ballingarry 0-1.

In the 16th minute Liam Cahill struck over a great point for Ballingarry with Noel Butler replying for Davins with a point from the puck out. In the 20th minute Lee Mackey struck a great point from a free nearly 90 yards out to leave the score Carrick Davins 1-7 Ballingarry 0-2.

Davins were guilty of many missed chances with Ballingarry scoring two points with a determined effort in the last 7 minutes, the first from a free by Seanie Cahill 20 meters out and the second on the stroke of the short whistle from play by Liam Cahill to leave the half time score Carrick Davins 1-7 Ballingarry 0-4

After the interval Ballingarry dominated all areas. Michael Ivors with a drop shot point from 40m out was followed by Philip Ivors’ first point when he fired over on the run with a great goal coming in the 37th minute for Ballingarry by Adrian Cleere after a great cut from a line ball by Donal Shelley who shortly after had to leave the field of play with a hand injury. Seanie Cahill pointed a free in the 40th minute to leave the score level Carrick Davins 1-7 Ballingarry 1-7.

The writing was on the wall for Davins at this stage as they were unable to handle the difficult conditions with Ballingarry driving on with Philip Ivors scoring four points, two from play and two frees between the 41st minute and the 47th minute with Ciaran Shelley getting his first point in the 49th minute and Adrian Cleere having another point almost from the puck out leaving the score Ballingarry 1-13 Carrick Davins 1-7 as we entered the last 10 minutes.

Philip Ivors added 2 more points one from a free and the second from the corner flag added 2 more in the 56th minute from play and the 60th minute from a 65 to bring the final score Ballingarry 1-17 Carrick Davins 1-7.

Ballingarry are now almost assured of a semi final spot with the Carrick Davins v Carrick Swans derby in the next round a vital match for both clubs. Those who played well for Ballingarry were the Fitzgeralds Gerry and Danny in defence with Ian Ivors and Dickie Norton all playing their part, Donal Shelley was very solid in the middle of the field until injured with Adrian Cleere, Liam Cahill and Michael and Philip Ivors very effective up front. In the difficult conditions for a gallant Carrick Davins, Michael Ryan, Lee Mackey and Richie McGrath tried their best, with Gerry Robinson, Noel Butler, Willie O’Dwyer, Stephen Moroney, Shane Butler and Dean Gates all giving of their best
