Sorrento is a popular tourist destination due to its extraordinary landscape of sea, mountains and deep valleys overlooking the bay of Naples. It is a very romantic spot and an ideal location in which to celebrate your anniversary.

Discovering the old town in Sorrento should be top of your itinerary, it is full of character with a wealth of restaurants and bars while the main street is lined with elegant boutiques.

The town features many churches, ancient monasteries, palaces and Durazzo portals. The Romanesque Cathedral, which dates back to the 15th century, is a must see, while the Palazzo Veniero is an exceptional building from the 13th century with beautiful arched windows and decorative motifs.

When in Sorrento you are close to many other beautiful locations and there is a range of day trips that you can go on. A tour of the Amalfi coast will include visiting Amalfi, Positano, Sorrento and Ravello which is home to the Villa Cimbrone that overlooks the Bay of Salerno. Stretching along the southern side of Italy’s Sorrentine Peninsula, the Amalfi coast dazzles with its mysterious grottos, craggy cliffs and bays. A tour of Pompeii allows you to visit the famous excavated ancient city and gives you the opportunity to visit the Vesuvius volcano.

Along the Coast of Sorrento, you’ll find many tranquil coves set between cliffs, where you can relax and sunbathe on the pebbled beaches. In the centre of the town, there are two main beaches, the Marina Grande and the Marina Piccola where you can enjoy swimming in the crystal clear water that the coast is famous for.

Right in the centre of the Piazzo Tasso, you will find ‘Bar Rita’ which is a well-known rotisserie and pastry shop; it specialises in traditional recipes made from local products.

For a typically relaxed and friendly Italian atmosphere, check out Pizzeria Aurora on Piazza Tasso for award-winning pizzas (there are 50 to choose from) and home-made pasta. Don’t leave Sorrento without visiting one of its many gelaterie and trying Profumi di Sorrento which is a sorbet of local fruits.

Sorrento really comes alive at night and there are plenty of opportunities to soak up the atmosphere in one of Sorrento’s many open-air cafés. An aperitif in Piazza Tasso in the centre of town is a must, followed by a romantic dinner in one of the local restaurants where you will often find live traditional music. After dinner and a glass of limoncello - a local speciality -, take a walk around the shops in Via San Cesareo, which are open late. If you don’t want to call it a night after dinner, there are numerous locations where you can continue your evening, from elegant wine bars with lounge music, glamorous nightspots or classical music concerts, in the charming Cloisters of Saint Francis.
