Congratulations to Josephine Tobin who recently become the first Tipperary woman to ascend the Great Needle of Dunshean.

This well-known sea stack on the Kerry coast rises 140 ft to a vertigo inducing one metre square platform. Soon after, the feat was also accomplished by Joan Quinn Upperchurch, while on the same day Brian Dunne, Templederry completed a hat-trick of first ascents for the Mid-Tipp Hillwalkers Group.

On Sunday next, August 14, our usual programme goes ahead with a high level walk leaving from outside Cashel firestation at 11am. Meanwhile, we now have just two nights of rockclimbing left because of rapidly shortening evenings. So if you want to give it a try, it still continues on Tuesday evening, August 17, (weather permitting) leaving at 6.15pm from the Horse and Jockey
