The organisers of the People’s Picnic are hoping to build on last year’s inaugural success for this year’s event, which takes place in the grounds of Nenagh Castle on Saturday, August 30.

Joining Nenagh MINT Jazz Band on stage will be top country act Crystal Swing, who last played at the event when it was in the grounds of Nenagh Courthouse and was known as Bop While You Shop.

“Crystal Swing will be performing their usual high energy set and are sure to thrill the crowd,” said Cllr Hughie McGrath of the organising committee.

The band has appeared with the likes of Lily Allen and Bonnie Tyler as well as a host of Irish music stars, having burst on to the world stage following their appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres Show in the US. The internet video of their version of He Drinks Tequila subsequently went viral.

As well as the music, there will be plenty of other attractions, said Cllr McGrath, who revealed the day would also feature bouncy castle, a rodeo bull, kids disco and food stalls.

“The picnic will have a large marquee with seating and a bench area,” he said. “Last year we had a wonderful event and the feedback was incredible. We plan to build on that and deliver a great family fun day for all.”

The picnic is free of charge and runs from 1pm until 6pm. However, Cllr McGrath pointed out that no alcohol will be allowed on the grounds on Nenagh Castle that day. The festival is organised by the St Patrick’s Day committee with the support of Tipperary County Council and Nenagh MDC.
