What Are You Waiting For?

I am always fascinating when I hear people describe how they are postponing happiness, waiting for some specific event or other to arrive into their lives before they can be truly happy.

I am always fascinating when I hear people describe how they are postponing happiness, waiting for some specific event or other to arrive into their lives before they can be truly happy.

It could be something like winter is coming, and they will only be happy again when it is over. Some are refusing to feel happy until they lose weight, have a certain amount of money, be in that special relationship, or until the recession is over, what ever it is, happy feelings are deferred.

Happiness becomes conditional, saying words like “if only” It all depends on something that must happen first. They silently declare their intention to hold off on happiness.

Sounds strange when you put it like that doesn’t it, and what if the thing they are waiting for gets awfully delayed or never comes at all, what then? Do they remain in their state of negative feelings indefinitely, constantly waiting?

If this is true for you, what feelings are you choosing instead of happiness?

Think about it for a moment. What type of energy do you imagine you are leaking with these negative feelings and what type of energy do you imagine you would need in order to make your happiness happen? Do you think that you would create much happiness coming from a negative place, a place of holding back? What kind of results do you imagine you would be consistently producing?

Notice now how you may have been choosing some negative down grade feeling over happiness. Isn’t that exactly what you do when you declare that you will only be happy if or when…?

Could you decide now to feel happier? Think about some time in the past, a time when you were really happy, and turn up that feeling now, make it really big and bright. Add some sounds to it, a favourite song perhaps. Notice how you are feelings are different already. Instead of waiting to feel happier later on, commit to your happy feeling right now.

Remember you never know how long you might have to wait for happiness to call. So, what are you waiting for, have it now!
