I absolutely love keeping up to date with the latest seasonal trends in fashion and beauty. The autumn colours that are present on the catwalk at the moment are such rich and luxurious shades and I really want to introduce some of these into my home. I have a beautiful old wooden floor throughout the house which I do intend keeping but it will also need a little TLC. What colours would you recommend I use to give my home an autumnal feeling?
Just as fashion changes from season to season, the design and decor of your home should also be given a new lease of life throughout the seasons. These don’t have to be monumental or difficult changes, just regular updates here and there can add a whole new lease of life to your home. The autumn trends feature such beautiful bold colour palettes and textures which work wonderfully throughout the home. Grey and yellow palettes and deep red paints are just some of the most popular trends this autumn.
Keeping your wooden floor is a fantastic idea because it adds charm, warmth and elegance to a home. With a bit of sanding, staining and varnishing you can really bring out its original beauty. Wood floors are much easier to keep clean than a carpet as all you will need is a damp mop to keep them looking fantastic. It’s a bit time consuming to varnish the floors but it keeps them shiny and protected from scratches.
Depending on your floorboards, you may want to stain the floor before varnishing it. Try Sadolin Interior Stain which contains UV filters to prevent colour fading from the effect of sunlight and a tough finish to guard against everyday wear and tear. Let it dry thoroughly before applying your varnish. Sadolin Extra Durable Floor Varnish is the perfect choice as it provides extreme hardness and prolongs the life of interior wooden floors while maintaining its natural warmth and beauty.
When considering a colour scheme, grey might seem like a drab shade for a living space but pairing grey with pops of yellow is an amazing way to liven up a space. Shades such as Silver Spoon, Soft Steel and Aspen Silver are beautiful greys that can work as a backdrop for vibrant yellow pillows and accents – a modern, sleek way to dress up a room.
This autumn interior decorating trend is an easy way to transform a smaller space, because grey can open up a room and make it feel larger. Shades of yellow that will work fantastically with grey are Yellow Dark or Hot Sun to create a rustic autumn look. This colour scheme can be used throughout the year and the yellow accent can be substituted for other colours.
Try making use of harvest colours and paint a wall red to make a space feel warmer and more vibrant. You can paint a dining room or kitchen area red, and compliment the space with pumpkin coloured pillows as well as ivory and brown accents. Gold fixtures promote the warm undertones of a red space. This colour palette is most appropriate for autumn because it evokes images of changing leaves and burning fires. Red paints come in a wide range of shades from maroon, to tomato, to classic fire-engine red. English Fire, Crimson Kiss and Fireside will all work wonderfully to create the desired rich look.
To continue the rustic autumn look you can also buy some great used furniture at thrift stores and car boot sales for much less than it would cost to buy new furniture. Antique furniture is often better made than new furniture and if you don’t like a particular finish, you can give it a quick lift with some new paint and at very little cost. In fact, many furniture items that may seem run down or plain can be made to look like designer furniture after sanding back and adding a lick of paint or some wood stain. Try Crown All Purpose Woodstain. It may take a little more effort, but it is worth the final personalised result.
Soft furnishings and accessories are a great way to complete the overall look and feel of your newly decorated rooms. It allows you to add depth and colour and to create a more inviting space. Cushions, throws and rugs will add to the comfort of your rooms. You can use natural materials such as linen, wood and metals that will bring texture to a room which will sit perfectly with your autumn décor.
I hope these autumn trends will help you transform and cosy up your home this autumn. Colour is a very personal choice and it’s important to remember that when choosing new colour schemes throughout your home.
