A retired Tipperary Chef had over three millins reasons to smile this week after he discovered that he won €3,063,028 in last Wednesday night’s draw.

Speculation was mounting this week as to the identity and location of the Tipperary man who collected his prize on Friday afternoon.

The lucky man, who wishes his win to remain private, won this prize with a ticket purchased on the internet through the National Lottery’s Play Online service.

The Play Online service was launched by the National Lottery in 2009 and Wednesday’s Lotto jackpot win was the second time since then that a Lotto jackpot has been won using this service. The first time was in February 2010, when a Cork player won a Lotto jackpot of over €5 million.

The winner was accompanied by a number of family members and friends and said that he was very happy with the win:

‘I had three wins in Wednesday night’s draw – I won €3, €4 and also the jackpot of over €3 million’, he smiled.

‘I have no immediate plans for this win. I am retired so I have time to think about it. I will look after my family, and clear my mortgage, but after that, I just take each day as it comes. However, I would like to say that I wish good health to my mother, with my hope that she gets out of hospital soon’, he said.
