Golden Vale Pony Club

MINIMUS Competition: All 23 of our U12 members who have trained so hard since January for this Competition are now making their final preparations for the biggest competition of their year. On Saturday and Sunday 11th and 12th June Golden Vale will send six teams off to compete, in what has become, the largest national competition in the Irish Pony Club’s Calendar. Last year over 500 children from all over Ireland participated and Golden Vale were delighted to win the Boys Competition with a team of Seosamh Ryan, Michael Purcell, Jordan Lyons and Gavin Dunne and take 2nd place with our girls team consisting of Anna Gavin, Megan Sheedy, Rebekah Collins and Susie Doyle.

The following children are competing this year: Aaron Fogarty; Conor O’Hagan; Michael Purcell; Killian Ryan; David Kearney; Eoin Purcell; Harry Swan; Peter Wall; Toby Lambe; Sam Rappaport; Anna Gavin; Annie Kavanagh; Kitty Lambe; Jessica Young; Caoimhe O’Brien; Doireann Egan; Niamh Ryan; Katelyn Young; Eimear Darcy; Saoirse Fogarty; Isobel Lambe and Katie Marnell and Aoibheann Quinn. All these children have trained up to three times a week in swimming; running and cross country riding and deserve huge credit for the effort they have shown.

The Club would like to thank all the trainers, including Capt. Joe Gleeson and staff at Thurles Swimming Pool, and parents for the commitment, time and effort shown this year which will ensure that every child is fit and ready to achieve their absolute best on the day. Finally we wish every child competing a happy, safe and memorable weekend at Minimus.

A reminder to all PASSPORTS must accompany ponies on the day.

TABLE QUIZ: A Table Quiz will take place in the Monks Pub on Friday 24th June at 9pm. At €5 per head this will be a very entertaining and cheap night for all parents of members. The fundraiser is being held in order to try and lower the cost of Camp for all this year but in order to be a success we need numbers so put the date in your diary and invite your friends.

PONY GAMES: U10 Pony Games training will take place on Wednesday 8th June at 6pm at Tipperary Equestrian Centre. Anybody interested in training please attend. Any queries please contact Fiona Hyland on 0862515875.

The club will host the area Pony Games Qualifier on 1st July at 6pm in Mattie Mahers.

MCKEE BARRACKS TRIP: Golden Vale Pony Club are very fortunate to have been invited on a visit of McKee Barracks and Aras an Uachtaran on 28th July 2011.

The Club will be travelling by bus early on that morning arriving in Dublin at McKee for 10am. Our members will be given a display of Defence Forces Equipment followed by a tour of the Equitational School. Lunch will then be provided in McKee and they we will head off for a tour of Aras an Uachtaran. There will also be a tour of the Garda Mounted Unit. Photographs will be allowed to be taken in some areas.

Due to security there are only a limited number of places available and any members interested should contact Fiona O’Hagan on 087 2360844 immediately. A €10 deposit must accompany your booking to secure a place and it will be on a first come first served basis. The total cost for the day will not exceed €15 per member. It is not necessary for a parent to travel as all children will be properly supervised by Pony Club Committee Members.

ONE DAY EVENTS: Just a reminder to members that the ODE season is about to commence. One Day Eventing is a fantastic competition for all members as it includes three different disciplines – dressage, show jumping and cross country. More and more of our members are participating in this event and we would encourage all members to give it a try. The list of ODEs are on the pony club website www.irishponyclub.ie. PONY CAMP: Pony Camp is not too far away now and takes place the week commencing 11th July. Your application forms for Camp will be posted to you in the next few days and the closing date for applications is Friday 1st July. On Monday 27 June at Thurles Band Hall entries for Camp will be accepted from 7 – 9 pm.

CONGRATS!: Congratulations to Darragh Ryan who has been selected to travel to Germany next week by Showjumping Ireland. We wish him the best of luck

SHOW JUMPING: Any members interested in trying out for the Robbie Bailey or John Ledingham Teams should note that the first selection rally will take place on Friday 17th June at Ryans Mill Road. In order to make these teams you must have attended the rallies. Please book in with Deirdre on 0851198282.

PASSPORTS AND VACCINATIONS: The Club have organised for a Vet to attend at O’Dwyers, Stradavoher on 15th June between 5.30pm and 7.30pm. This will mean all club members who need passports, vaccinations etc prior to camp can arrange. Members must book in prior to Tuesday 7th June with Mary O’Dwyer on 0879077045.
