Geoff Jones and his wife Joan McGowan have secured yet another 2014 award for their family run gastro pub in Kilruane, Nenagh. John and Sally McKenna of the McKennas’ Guides (formerly Bridgestone) visited The Fairways Bar & Orchard Restaurant in recent weeks and are raving about the place.
Nestled in the tiny hamlet of Kilruane, just outside of Nenagh this humble, gastro pub is a favourite of food critics throughout the land. Recommended by Georgina Campbell, Paolo Tullio, Lucinda O’Sullivan and John and Sally McKenna McKennas’ Guide, they serve lunches and evening meals seven days a week.
“What is mind-blowing is the ambition and hard work that Mr. Jones brings to his restaurant and bar” write the McKennas. “Hard work is evident in every dish; everything is made from scratch and his team are always pushing the envelope: they want to blow your mind”.
This popular food destination has a fantastic reputation for featuring a separate fish menu, where seafood lovers can choose how they would like to have their fish cooked – baked, pan fried, steamed.
The kitchen team also concentrates on delivering what the McKennas describe as “spectacular” desserts.
“The ambition means that the menus are wide-ranging,” and the McKennas speak highly of the fish from the “wonderful” Rene Cusack, Piemontese and Hereford beef from local farmers.
The Fairways is indeed intent on pushing the envelope and blowing your mind and launched their new menu on Thursday, February 27.
