Travel - Making every week a festival in Tralee

My friends and I are considering making a trip to Tralee in September. There will be six of us, all female and in our late 20s hoping to take a long weekend break. As the festival will be over by the time we arrive, could you possibly recommend what there is to do in Tralee or around the area and where we could stay?

My friends and I are considering making a trip to Tralee in September. There will be six of us, all female and in our late 20s hoping to take a long weekend break. As the festival will be over by the time we arrive, could you possibly recommend what there is to do in Tralee or around the area and where we could stay?

Tralee is always a vibrant location to visit so don’t worry if you can’t make it for Rose of Tralee Festival because there will still be plenty to see and do. The nightlife in Tralee is renowned and Horan’s nightclub is a firm favourite with locals and visitors alike but there are plenty of other pubs and restaurants so you will find no shortage of entertainment during your break.

If you are looking for some relaxing day time events, the Aqua Dome is a great way to spend an afternoon. It consists of two saunas, a steam room, water slides and even a mini golf course so it’s the perfect place to relax after a late night.

Alternatively if you would prefer to treat yourself to a pampering session, there are quite a number of spas in the area which are connected to hotels. Nádúr in Ballygarry House Hotel is the perfect choice and can also be accessed by non guests. With reasonable prices and a whole host of treatments available. This is an activity all of the girls will want to get involved in. If you want to get exploring, the Tralee Heritage Trail begins at the Ashe Memorial Hall in Denny Street which houses the Kerry County Museum and Tralee Tourist Office. The trail takes visitors on a leisurely walking tour of key sites in the town’s history, while the museum itself traces the history of Kerry and Ireland and features a stunning reconstruction of medieval Geraldine Tralee.

Tralee is a great base to explore other parts of Kerry with some of Ireland’s most scenic areas just a short drive away. A 40-minute drive will take you to the picturesque town of Killarney where you can enjoy a stroll through Killarney National Park.

If you are feeling adventurous, Dingle is a 50-minute drive from Tralee and is filled with numerous activities to get involved in. Irish Adventures is a company which offers hill walking, rock climbing, abseiling, and kayaking to name a few. There are also a number of surfing companies in the area that give lessons so you don’t need to be a professional to have a go! No trip to Dingle would be complete without taking a short boat journey from the pier to meet the infamous, Fungie the Dolphin.
