With regular Ryanair flights to East Midlands Airport and a flight time of under an hour, Nottingham is the ideal location for a city break. Nottingham is known for its fantastic shopping, jam packed cultural calendar and wide range of restaurants and bars. It is the ideal location for those looking for a fun getaway close to home.

Nottingham’s compact city centre, pedestrian streets and tram system make it easy to get around. From top designer brands to high street favourites, the city has something for everyone when it comes to retail therapy. Your first shopping stop should be The Exchange. One of Nottingham’s most impressive buildings, The Exchange has been a retail haven since 1929. Old Market Square is in the heart of the city and is the largest public space in the UK after London’s Trafalgar Square. It is the ideal place to go and take a break from shopping and at night it is transformed into a major hub for the city’s social scene.

Nottingham offers a wide range of nightlife activities, from a river cruise on the Nottingham Princess, a relaxed pint in a traditional pub or cocktails in a cosmopolitan bar. Make the most of your time there and see a show in the Theatre Royal or take a tour of the city’s underground caves. You’ll find live music being played in the city any night of the week and Nottingham is packed with great venues. Whether it’s for some classical music, opera, ballet or a pantomime, you’ll really be spoilt for choice.

No trip to Nottingham would be complete without a visit to Sherwood Forest. Once part of a royal hunting forest, Sherwood Forest National Nature Reserve covers 450 acres and incorporates some ancient areas of native woodland where birch trees grow alongside over a thousand veteran oaks, most of which are over 500 years old. The largest and most famous of these is the Major Oak, known throughout the world thanks to the legendary hero of Sherwood Forest and Nottinghamshire’s most famous son, Robin Hood.

Whatever time of year you decide to plan your city break and wherever you stay, you will never be far from something exciting in Nottingham.
