We have decided to take our children away with their grandparents this spring and would love an Irish destination that will create some lovely memories for us all. Where would you recommend?

The first place that springs to mind is definitely the magical county of Donegal. The supreme appeal of our most northerly county lies in the natural beauty of the roughly-hewn coastlines, windswept peninsulas, precipitous cliffs, isolated golden beaches, charming pubs and welcoming locals. There is a wealth of activities available for you and your family and an atmosphere that will ease you into a state of happiness, peace and tranquillity.

Bundoran is known to many as Ireland’s premier seaside resort. Recognised by Fáilte Ireland as a fantastic family-friendly location, it is located on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean against a backdrop of the majestic Ben Bulben Mountain. It caters to the needs of every generation and is sure to provide you and your family with a fantastic time full of activities, and, most importantly, those unbeatable family memories.

From outdoor activities such as horse riding, surfing, picnics and sandcastle making to indoor diversions including story-telling, waterslides, fun rides and even seaweed baths, Bundoran has something for everyone.

Budoran’s Tullen strand is a glistening gem that hosts the most idyllic waters for surfing to be found in Ireland. When in Bundoran it would be a shame not to test these jade-coloured shores. Beginner or pro, Bundoran caters for every level. Surfworld is a fantastic all-in-one surf shop and surf school. The instructors come highly recommended and provide for a safe but truly exhilarating experience.

It goes without saying that the cliff walks in Bundoran are mesmerising. Make sure to take some time to stroll around the cliff tops while inhaling the pure Atlantic air and gazing out at the sensational views that surround you. The West End cliff walk and the Roughey Walk are organised walks that take you around the town and cliffs and give you the opportunity to take in views of the Tullen Strand and learn about Bundoran’s bustling town.

Waterworld is another great day out for all the family, with wavepools, lazy rivers, endless slides and even an adult only facility adjoining where you can relax and rejuvenate while indulging in seaweed baths and a range of facilities and treatments. Perfect for those who are health conscious or simply want to unwind.

The surrounding towns also have so much to offer. The fascinating and beauteous Marble Arch Caves are a stone’s throw away at Florencecourt, County Fermanagh (45 minutes drive) and definitely worth a visit. Believed to be one of Europe’s finest show caves, they are popular with everyone who visits. Tours last 75 minutes and during this time you will be guided via electric boat through a fascinating natural underworld of rivers, waterfalls, winding passages and lofty chambers.

Even closer to Bundoran is the hugely popular waterbus tour that departs from the pier in Donegal town (25 minutes drive). Indulge in an 75-minute tour of the best historical, natural and geographical sites that Donegal has to offer, while enjoying a drink and participating in the on-board entertainment. This has become a firm favourite for families visiting Donegal and caters to the needs of all generations.
