Visit Geordie shores for a fine Tyne shopping trip

Grainger Street
I want to take my girlfriend away on a weekend shopping trip. Two of her close friends are getting married this year and she keeps complaining that she has nothing to wear so I want to surprise her with a weekend away! We’ve been to London a few times so ideally I’d like to go somewhere else in the UK. Thanks!

The UK has lots of great shopping cities to choose from so you will not be short on options. I would recommend checking out Newcastle for this trip. Nestled on the Tyne River in the north east of England, Newcastle has a great shopping scene and is only minutes away with regular flights from Dublin.

While Newcastle may be known for ‘Geordie Shore’ and football, you’ll find there is a lot more to this compact city than meets the eye. In terms of shopping, Newcastle has two of the largest centres in the UK. Eldon Square is in the centre of the city and has lots of flagship high street stores to choose from. The Metrocentre is three miles south-west of the city, twenty minutes from the airport. It is one of the largest shopping centres in Europe and has everything and anything all under one roof. Whether it’s designer labels or affordable favourites that your girlfriend is after, there’s plenty to peruse in these malls.

If it’s more boutique stores that you’re looking for, Grainger Street is the place to be. Housed inside the stunning Central Arcade building, offerings from the likes of Reiss, Jigsaw, Kurt Geiger and many more can be found. For vintage shopping, be sure to check out High Bridge Street, a cobbled walkway of unique and quirky treasure troves.

A whole weekend away gives you plenty of time for hitting the shops. If you’d like to check out what else is on offer in the city, you won’t be disappointed. Considered one of the best cities for nightlife in Europe, Newcastle has a huge array of restaurants, bars and clubs on offer for a fun evening out.

There are also plenty of museums and art galleries to check out in your downtime. For a very special slice of history, visit the Victoria Tunnel. Ranked the number one best attraction in the city, the two-mile-long underground passageway is bursting with historical facts and tales. Wear comfortable shoes if you decide to give it a visit, as the guides take you on a two-hour walking tour under the city.
