The Canon Hayes Recreation Centre in Tipperary Town will celebrate its 25th Anniversary this year.
The idea for a complete indoor/outdoor sporting and leisure facility originated with Tipperary Town A.C. when they sought some land from the local Town Council on which to lay a running track.
That initial proposal was the catalyst in bringing together a number of people who spearheaded a campaign that provided Tipperary with a facility that is the envy of many larger towns throughout the country.
As it prepares to celebrate its 25th Anniversary, Centre Chairman, Martin Quinn says that the Sports Complex is a model of community development and an example of what can be achieved by a community working together in a spirit of active co-operation.
“Tipperary Town can be very proud of the Canon Hayes Centre and of the major role that is has played in the sporting development of the town and region. It has encouraged and promoted active participation in sport and has given something back to the community through initiatives such as the Sports Scholarships Programme and the Annual Sports Awards event. The community has actively supported the Centre over the past 25 years and I hope that that support will continue into the future” said Martin Quinn.
