The ICMSA, the State’s specialist dairy farm organisation, has welcomed the news that the Irish dairy sector has beened clear to export to the Chinese market.

John Comer, the president of the ICMSA, said the news that the Irish dairy sector had met the exacting standards set out by the Chinese authorities and could grow the value of exports from their present value of €170m was excellent news.

Mr Comer said that the clearance received by our dairy sector was further evidence of the world-beating levels of technical excellence now routine within our farming and processing sectors.

He said that it was now incumbent upon the industry to follow up on this very positive recognition and go into the massive Chinese market with determination and flair in the sure knowledge that their product is produced to the highest standards possible.
