Downgrading Waterford Will Devastate Tipp Patients - Lowry

Deputy Michael Lowry has today expressed serious concerns over the impact the downgrading of Waterford Regional Hospital could have on the people of Tipperary and on Clonmel General Hospital. Deputy Lowry explained that the South Eastern Hospital group, including Waterford Regional Hospital, covers a catchment area of over 650,000 people and caters for a huge chuck of the population of Tipperary.

The breakup of the region by aligning Kilkenny and Wexford with Dublin Hospitals will lead to a situation where the population of the South Eastern region will be below the threshold required for many specialist services. The Independent T.D. has voiced his concerns over the impact this downgrading may have on the level of care, the quality of services and the ease of access that will be available to people across Tipperary if the configuration of hospitals in the South East changes.
