Training Key To Improved Economy - Chamber

Employers were the main focus of the recent Chamber of Commerce meeting held in Mikey Ryan’s. Employer networks are being set up over Tipperary to assist companies to get the best information on employment issues and also act as a lobbying point where an informed voice would make all the difference.

The Chamber heard from Phil Shanahan from South Tipperary Development Company, who will be coordinating the formation of the employer’s network in the county. Phil said “training is key when it comes to developing staff and new businesses”. She went on to explain a number of tax efficient strategies that employers can adopt to assist both current staff and job seekers to gain relevant training in the workplace.

Phil went on to explain that “we have schemes that work for any size of business from the sole trader to large multinationals. Indeed taking on new staff can free up management time to win new business and develop new products.

Sean Laffey, President of the Chamber said they would be holding a special training seminar in February. “We want to get the message out to employers and job seekers that there are many opportunities to create work around training initiatives. In that regard, we will be carrying out a survey amongst Cashel businesses next week to establish just where we are in terms of the training needs of the commercial community.”

We asked Sean why take so long between the survey and the seminar. He told us that once the results of the survey were collated, they would have a clearer idea as to the range and levels of training required. This could be at FETAC Level 5 for some businesses whilst others may be looking for specific bespoke training packages. And, with such a range of enterprises in the town it would take at least two months to develop material for the seminar.

To find out more about training opportunities and tax incentives for employers, businesses can contact Sean Laffey on 06262685 or Phil Shanahan at STDC in Cahir.
