North Tipperary Young Farmer Development Group.

North Tipperary Young Farmer Development Group.

Tim has recently built a new milking parlour and kindly invited the new group to visit his premises and view for themselves the new infrastructure. The new Group was launched by John Joyce, who also acted as MC for the evening. He began by welcoming the large and enthusiastic turnout present on the night and spoke about the importance of these Development Groups for the future of farming and wished all involved the best of luck in getting it up off the ground.

Tim Maher spoke on his reasons for upgrading his parlour and answered a number of questions about the building of the parlour. Builder, Joe McGrath spoke on his involvement in building the parlour. Mark Shaw representing De Laval gave a rundown of the new machine and then answered questions the group had. The tour was brought to a close by Paudie Meade, Secretary of the new YFDG, who thanked everybody involved in organising the event and urging all young farmers in North Tipperary to consider joining the new group. Macra Young Farmer Development Groups operate at county level and provide discussion nights and information meetings for young farmers around the country. IFAC Accountants are Macra’as partner for YFDGs in Ireland and Europe. Various issues of relevance to young farmers are covered by a panel of guest speakers at each regional meeting. Topics covered at past meetings include farm accounts, transfer of land, the Nitrates Directive, GM crops, farm financing and pricing policies with local merchants. Any young farmer interested in becoming involved in a local Young Farmer Development Group or in attending any of these meetings should contact Derry Dillon on (01) 426 8904.
