Templemore Council Agrees To Free Christmas Parking

SHOPPERS in Templemore will have free parking in the run-up to Christmas in a bid to boost shopping in the town. The move was agreed by Templemore Town Council at its meeting this Monday following a call from local traders.

Templemore Traders Association had written to the council seeking free parking and council sponsorship with its Christmas promotions.

The council agreed to have free parking on each Saturday in December in the lead-up to Christmas, plus free parking for all of Christmas Week.

However, councillors appealed to the traders to ask their staff to use the free car parks around the town and not to take up spaces in the square that might be used by shoppers.

The council also agreed to donate E500 to the traders’ Christmas shopping promotion campaign.

Cllr Valerie Young said the council wanted to send out a message to people to “come and shop in Templemore”, while Cllr Michael Ryan said the parking initiative was “unique” in North Tipperary. He appealed to the traders to put on extra promotions to entice people into the town.

Meanwhile, the town’s Christmas lights will be switched on offically on Friday, December 7, at 6pm.
