North Tipperary Macra na Feirme

A meeting of the North Tipperary Macra na Feirme county executive was held last Friday in O’Sullivan’s bar, Newport. This was the first meeting with members from the new Thurles club present and chairman Tim Maher welcomed the new club. Several events were planned for the forth coming weeks as the buildup to the annual national conference continues. Following the meeting the north Tipperary round of the “Know your Ag”, agricultural table quiz was had. This is a competition where clubs pit their knowledge against each other to show off their agricultural prowess. The local Newport club emerged victorious and will go on to represent the club and county at the national finals to be held in Waterford at the end of the month. The county executive would like to thank the Newport club for hosting the meeting and quiz and their refreshments proved a big hit with all present.

Congratulations to Devilsbit Club member Sarah Guilfoyle who has been announced as one of 12 top new Macra members who will go through to the final of the AIB Best New Macra Member competition. The AIB/ Macra competition is designed to award a member who is deemed by his/her club to have made a significant contribution to the development of the club during his/her first year of membership.

After submitting an application form, members are judged on a number of different criteria, with the top 12 members being short-listed for interview by an adjudicating panel at the Macra na Feirme annual Conference in Waterford over the October Bank holiday weekend. Sarah thanked Club members saying she could not have done it without their help and support. She said that Macra na Feirme was a brilliant organisation and joining was one of the best decisions she ever made.

A meeting to organise a North Tipperary Capers team will be held in the Clodagh Bar on Thursday night at 8 o’clock in Borrisoleigh. If you can sing, dance, act or play a musical instrument you are more than welcome to come along. Devilsbit Macra will host the North Tipperary finals of the Public speaking and Impromptu Public speaking competitions in Fitzpatricks Bar, Clonmore on Friday night at nine o’clock; this is an extremely entertaining event as it involves receiving a random topic and speaking on it for two minutes, all are welcome to attend and a great night is promised.
