New salon owner, Mary Duffy, will represent Ireland in the World Hairdressing Championships in Milan, Italy, next month. Mary is one of only twelve hairstylists from all over Ireland who will represent the country in this prestigious competition.

Mary, who has been in the business for 13 years, joined Team Ireland in 2007 and secured her place on the team by competing in hairdressing competitions all over Ireland.

The Peter Mark trained hairdresser has already won ten International and European medals as well as cups in cutting, upstyling, fantasy and hair extensions as part of Team Ireland in citites across Europe including Paris, Athens, Milan and Vienna.

Mary, who is originaly from Athlone, teaches in a hairdressing college in Athlone town as well as working in a salon there. She felt that there was a niche in the Tipperary market for a five star salon and decided that Thurles was the place to open. She plans to open her salon in no. 29 Liberty Square, Thurles, when she returns from competing in Milan. She flies out on 6th October for two days of competing in her chosen areas which are fantasy and hair extensions. She has been busy perfecting her techniques on her model, who will travel to the competition with her, for the past number of weeks and is hoping to raise the Irish flag with her creations.

Recruitment is under-way for staff for her new Thurles salon and after her exciting trip to Milan, Mary will be eager to get her new business off the ground.
