Waiting times set to be reduced
Extra staff are on the way for the Garda Vetting Unit in Thurles and will result in the further reduction in the turnaround time for vetting sapplications.
Justice Minister Alan Shatter confirmed that 23 staff were recently transferred from the Department of Agriculture to the unit. Alongside this, 31 civilian staff members are currently undergoing training with the first cohort due to have completed their training by mid July and the last by mid-September. These staff will then be assigned to the Vetting Service and will have a significant positive effect on vetting times.
