Cllr John Hogan has said Element Power should contribute more to the community around Roscrea by way of development contributions relating to the construction of a 36 MW wind turbine.
At the December meeting of Thurles Municipal District - held in Roscrea - Cllr Hogan said the company is only paying J7,000 by way of development contributions, or “one sixth” of the norm. “They’re building windfarms here in Roscrea. They are using the latest technology but not offering the latest contributions.” Element Power had only given a “token gesture” to the community, said Cllr Hogan. “Why only J7,000 as opposed to J37,000? That’s the industry standard.”
The Monaincha Wind Farm is a 36 MW wind farm located in Monaincha Bog between Roscrea and Borris-in-Ossory, Co. Laois. It has 15 generating units. The hub height is 91m with a rotor diameter of 117m. The project was completed on Sept. 5th.
