A landmark hotel in the centre of Roscrea has closed this week, raising new fears for jobs in the town already hit by the closure of Xtravision and other town centre shops.

Damer Court Hotel (formerly known as Grant’s) on Castle Street has closed, pending a meeting with creditors at the South Court Hotel, Raheen, Limerick, on July 22 next. The hotel had up to 20 staff, though it’s understood this number was reduced in the last six months. The closure of one of Roscrea’s premiers hotels - the Racket Hall Country House hotel on the Dublin road remains in receivership - comes as yet another blow to a town already struck by business and shop closures. Roscrea Chamber of Commerce Seamus Browne said the small towns are “being hammered.”
