THOUGH there was “no money in the budget” to hire a tour guide for Nenagh Castle, there might be an opportunity to “draw from the pool in the Rock of Cashel” to ensure a seasonal tour guide would be available for the castle, Cllr Tom Moylan told Monday’s meeting of Nenagh Town Council.
He made the suggestion following correspondence with the Office of Public Work (OPW), which has responsibility for the castle.
Cllr Moylan, Fine Gael, also asked that Nenagh Castle be placed on the agenda and that every effort be made to develop the grounds surrounding the historic site in 2013.
“I think everyone has recognised the great success that the castle has been,” Cllr Moylan said. “We need to have another discussion on it, agree on a plan and try to deliver on it early in the new year.”
His fellow FG councillor Conor Delaney described Nenagh Castle as an “example of something that works in the town”, before arguing that now was the time to “take it to the next level. We need to keep on top of it and make sure that we don’t let this one slip.”
