Deputy Tom Hayes has sought a meeting with Eirgrid to discuss their proposals for the Grid Link Project in South Tipperary.

The 400kv overhead line will link Leinster and Munster and Eirgrid has identified a number of 1km route corridor options and substation zones. One of those proposed corridors in the E500m project, takes in parts of South Tipperary, from Carrick on Suir, just south of Cahir, north of Burncourt across the Mitchelstown Caves and from there via Ballyporeen across the Kilworth mountain just west of Araglen.

Minister Hayes said: “This proposed development is of huge significance for the people of South Tipperary and a period of focused consultation will now run until November 26th. I understand that local people have concerns about the impact this project will have on tourism, community interests and protected species.” More info at www.eirgrid.com
