Each year a Tipperary Holiday Guidebook is produced by a group of North and South Tipperary tourism representatives. In 2011, the group produced an exciting new look Guidebook, which to date has been promoted extensively and has been received favourably in the market place. The main sections promoted in the Guidebook are Castles and Heritage; Watersports and Angling; Walking and Cycling; Equestrian Activities and Greyhound Racing; Golf; Children’s Activities; Food and Drink; Culture, Festivals & Events and Accommodation. The 2011 Holiday Guidebook had good participation from North Tipperary in all sectors.

North Tipperary Tourism Company Limited (NTTCL) was formed in 2004 as a result of the Tourism Strategy for North Tipperary which was commissioned by North Tipperary County Development Board. Members comprise of representatives from the tourism trade, local development, local government and the statutory sector. The company is supported and facilitated by North Tipperary County Council.

The main purpose of North Tipperary Tourism Company Limited is to promote North Tipperary as a tourist destination and contribute to the development of tourism in the county.

Due to the current economic slowdown NTTCL have reviewed the various programmes and identified the new markets that the company intend to market.

For the past number of years, NTTCL have been placing an advert in the Tourism Ireland annual French publications which reached an estimated potential 14 million French holiday makers.

In 2012, NTTCL have decided to take this campaign further by taking adverts in the Tourism Ireland German, U.K. and North American publications, as well as continuing to advertise in the French market. NTTCL hope that by reaching a much larger audience, the company will be putting Tipperary on the map as THE place to visit in 2012!

To date this year, NTTCL has been represented at the following shows:

CMT in Stuttgart, Germany in January.

The Holiday World Show in Dublin in January.

The Best of Britain & Ireland in London in March.

Bloom in the Park in Dublin in June

Taste of Dublin Food Festival in Dublin in June

CLA Gamefair in Oxfordshire, England in July.

Dublin Horse Show in RDS, Dublin in August.

The 2011 Tipperary Holiday Guidebook has been distributed by NTTCL at the above shows.

Other promotional events the company will be attending during 2011 include:

National Ploughing Championships in Kildare in September

The Over 50’s Show in Dublin in October

The BBC Good Food Show in Birmingham in November

Another exciting initiative which was run by NTTCL in 2011 was The Tourism Packages Development Training Programme for tourism trade members in North Tipperary. This training programme was supported by North Tipperary LEADER Partnership and North Tipperary County Council. 12 participants received one-to-one mentoring sessions on package development under this training programme which was run from November 2010 and April 2011.

Pierce Duggan, Chairperson of NTTCL, says “The purpose of this training programme was to equip the participants to compete for and win business by delivering a value added experience for today’s tourist”. Feedback to date from participants on this training programme has been very positive.

Following this training programme, a brochure was produced by NTTCL outlining some of the various packages developed by the programme participants. NTTCL have been distributing these brochures at the various consumer shows at home and abroad and the packages are being advertised by tourism operators and on various tourism websites.
