Ninety seven jobs are to be lost at Fethard’s Dawn Fresh Food processing plant, it was announced this week.

The food processing company is to shed 97 jobs following a sharp downturn in consumer demand for readymade meals containing meat products.

Dawn Fresh Foods was established in 1984 in Fethard, and employs 150 staff. The company’s UK subdivision Oak Farm Foods became caught up in the horsemeat scandal earlier in the year.
