Local TD Noel Coonan has welcomed the announcement that high speed quality broadband will be made available to every home and business nationally as part of a new plan.
“Despite our financial restraints, the Government has invested in ‘Delivering a Connected Society – A National Broadband Plan for Ireland’. This initiative will be instrumental in for Irish business and Chambers Ireland has said the plan will be a vital determinant in ensuring that Ireland can be the best place in the world to undertake business by 2016,” said Deputy Coonan.
“The National Broadband Plan is also good news for rural households throughout Tipperary who are struggling with slow broadband connection, or no broadband at all. The plan will provide a minimum of 30Mbps for every remaining home and business in the country; no matter how rural or remote,” continued Noel.
“Quality high speed internet connectivity has become vital in today’s society whether it is looking for jobs online or completing an online educational course for example. We must maintain our image abroad as an accessible place to invest.”
“The target is to implement the plan over the lifetime of the Government and I understand the Department of Communications will now contact commercial service providers and following that a public procurement will be announced to provide minimum levels of high speed broadband services across the country,” concluded Deputy Coonan.
