The state-of-the-art plant opened to much fanfare in 2004, but closed in 2011 with the loss of 130 jobs, after the market for medical devices, known as ‘stents’ evaporated. The E100m plant has lain idle ever since, despited repeated calls for the IDA to find a replacement employer. This week, Minister of State Tom Hayes TD said that Cashel is set to receive a jobs boost in the coming weeks following the sale of the former Johnson & Johnson plant on the Dublin road.
