Local Labour party member Shane Lee facilitated a recent meeting with community reps and some of Roscrea’s tourist providers, with the Regional Manager of Fáilte Ireland Mr Ruairi Deane.
The initiative has opened “a window of opportunity for Roscrea,” says Mr Lee. Before, Roscrea sought to have itself promoted as a tourist destination area while Failte Ireland’s remit was to promote tourism in Ireland using a national brand. Roscrea did not form part of a nationally promoted brand. Mr Ruairi Deane at his meeting with the Roscrea group last week informed them that Failte Ireland will shortly be launching a new brand covering the Midland area east of the Shannon and extending south and will be promoting the significant heritage product which makes up that area. George Cunningham is to make a submission to Fáilte Ireland stressing Roscrea and the central role it will play in this new tourism brand. “This branding provides an opportunity to highlight the enormous sum of work which Mr Cunningham has done for Roscrea over the years,” added Mr Lee.
