NENAGH Castle is to open to the public this summer, a move that was described as “fantastic” by local Junior Minister Alan Kelly. And he revealed that he is to write to President Michael D Higgins to ask him to offically open the project on June 6.
The news that the complex is to open for the summer was made this Monday by the Junior Minister for the OPW, Brian Hayes, who was in Nenagh at the invitation of Deputy Noel Coonan. Deputy Kelly also met Deputy Hayes along with town councillors and members of Nenagh Ormond Historical Society.
Afterwards, both Deputy Kelly and Fine Gael TD Noel Coonan welcomed the announcement.
The Labour TD said it was appropriate that it be opened by President Higgins, as he had given the go-ahead for the work as Minister for the Arts, Culture and Heritage in 1996.
