On Friday 21st September locals and visitors across Ireland will enjoy the unique experience of Culture Night, a free night of entertainment, discovery and adventure taking place across 30 towns, cities and counties. To celebrate Culture Night in Thurles,

The Source Arts Centre is hosting a very special marathon reading and a community dance performance.

For the reading 18 Voluntary groups will each read a chapter of the epic novel Ulysses spread over 26 hours non-stop. Reading will continue all through the night and into the next day.

The Source Arts Centre will be a hive of activity as various events and activities will take place in support of the reading with a ticketed lunch and evening meal event to raise money for Our Lady’s Hospital in Crumlin. This is a unique community project, and open to anyone who wishes to get involved. Help read a chapter of the book you always intended but never got around to. If you are a charitable, sporting, social or recreational group and feel up to the challenge of reading a page or two, come down to The Source, have some fun and raise some money for a worthy cause.

Also taking place at The Source is Sowing the Seeds of Dance – a show and tell performance based free dance event .Experience the work and world of dance where local participants perform their own dances based on the theme of Gaelic Games under the tuition of Fluxusdance.

This will be a culmination of a series of workshops held by professional dancers over September at The Source Arts Centre. Fluxusdance is known for its commitment to inclusive dance practices bringing the best professional practice in the field to people of all ages and abilities.

Introductory workshops for community groups will take place on 7th & 8th and 14th & 15th September and this will be the first event based on ‘The Divine Normal’ a dance performance that draws on the dynamic, social and personal histories connected to the community ownership of the GAA, and was created with input from Michael O’Muircheartaigh and specially commissioned music by John Spillane.
