Excel Dance School

The Excel Dance School will host its ballet school end of year performance on Saturday, June 20th.

This event will showcase the skills and talents of all the children who attended the school from September 2014 to June 2015.

The Excel Dance School offers a combination of ballet and modern theatre dance. Participation encourages confidence and self-expression as well as individuality within a structured environment and is open to all children from the age of four years.

Students with particular ability are encouraged to take examinations in ballet at the end of the year, but the focus will be on participation and enjoyment rather than just examination.

Children may enjoy the opportunity to participate in a sharing/show at Christmas and may also get an opportunity to participate on stage at the Excel with professional touring productions where appropriate.

The Excel Dance School caters for four different age groups ranging from four years old and upwards.

The Excel Dance School is affiliated with the International Dance Teachers’ Association (IDTA), which is one of the world’s largest examination boards, covering the full spectrum of dance exams on a global scale with over seven thousand members worldwide.

Junior Art Summer Camp

The Tipperary Excel will host a Junior Summer Art Camp 2015 for five to eleven year olds - week one will run from Monday, June 29th to Friday, July 3rd while week two will run from Monday, July 6th to Friday, July 10th.

The summer art camp classes are from 10am to 1pm. The cost per week is €60 per child with €110 for two children from the same family.

The art camp includes painting, printing, clay modelling and textiles.

Starcamp Summer Camps

The Tipperary Excel will host a Starcamp Summer Camp from Monday, July 13th to Friday, July 17th.

Starcamp is Ireland’s longest running and only nationwide performing summer camp.

Children who attend this camp will get the opportunity to sing, dance and act while also participating in games, shows, arts and crafts, movie scenes and much more!

Great War Lecture

The Tipperary Excel will host Dr Denis Marnane on Wednesday, July 15th at 8pm.

Dr Denis Marnane will deliver a free lecture entitled “The impact of the Great War on Tipperary Town was in two very distinct parts” as part of the Tipperary Festival 2015.

In 1914-15 the 49th Brigade, part of the 16thth Division, was trained there.

Then the Tipperary military barracks became what was called a Command Depot, a place for the recuperation and rehabilitation of wounded soldiers.

This talk will focus on that aspect of the town’s military history.

Children’s workshops

The Tipperary Excel will host a series of children’s workshops on Friday, July 17th as part of the It’s a Long Way to Tipperary Festival 2015.

More information is to follow, but in the meantime please keep your eye out for the festival’s “Did You Know” interesting facts about Tipperary Town’s rich heritage which will be displayed around the town in the lead up to the festival.

Les Misérables

On August 18th-22nd the Simon Ryan Theatre will host the Excel Youth Theatre’s debut production of ‘Les Misérables’.

More than seventy million people in forty-three countries and in twenty-two languages around the globe have seem this musical which it is still breaking box office records everywhere in its 30th year.

Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France ‘Les Misérables’ tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption - a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit.

This local production will see a talented cast of over fifty young people take to the stage this summer. Watch this space for notifications of tickets going on sale.

Excel Volunteers

A very good meeting of Tipperary Excel Volunteers took place on Wednesday, May 27th to discuss activities for the remainder of 2015.

The next meeting is planned for Wednesday, June 17th in the Tipperary Excel at 7.30pm.

If you are in a position to attend the Excel would be delighted to see you.
