Following on from its critically-acclaimed sell-out tour in 2013 CallBack theatre is delighted to have been awarded a seven-week touring grant for ‘Fred & Alice’ by the Arts Council of Ireland.
This tour takes place between March and May and will feature a performance in The Simon Ryan Theatre, Tipperary Excel on Wednesday, May 7th (8pm).
It’s not easy to get by in this crazy old world, is it? But Fred and Alice have discovered that all you really need are two tennis rackets, a freezer full of ready meals and an immature coping strategy.
Fred and Alice first met in the home. It wasn’t really a home, but Fred always called it a home because that was where he lived and if you are not living at home then where are you? It was love at first sight for Alice. Fred didn’t talk to her again for years, but then eventually Fred got used to her and it was love at first sight for him too.
From their days in care, to independent living, Fred and Alice negotiate the perils and pitfalls of life and love.
Come see this joyous celebration of individuality.
CallBack Theatre is dedicated to producing new work. Their first production, ‘Set in Stone’, premiered in 2010 and was revived in 2011 to critical acclaim.
The writer of ‘Fred & Alice’, John Sheehy, has been granted a Theatre Artist in Residence award by the Arts Council and is working on a new play ‘The Hole’ which will go into production in September 2014. Following that John’s next play, ‘Men Without Souls’, will be performed as part of Limerick City of Culture and will premiere in Friars’ Gate Theatre from October 14th-19th.
‘Fred & Alice’ previewed in the Friars’ Gate Theatre, Kilmallock and the Cork Opera House Half Moon Theatre and premiered in Bewley’s Café Theatre Dublin in February 2013.
The play received rave reviews, fantastic audience reaction and sold out. It then toured extensively to venues and festivals in 2013.
The production was invited back to Bewley’s Café Theatre for a further three-week run and again sold out.
‘Fred & Alice’ had over eighty performances in 2013 and is touring between March and June of this year.
It is also planned to extend the tour nationally and internationally. CallBack Theatre, for instance, has been invited to perform for a week in the Oran Mor, Glasgow, Scotland in May.
The Callback Theatre’s memorable production of ‘Fred & Alice’ features at The Simon Ryan Theatre, Tipperary Excel in Tipperary Town on Wednesday, May 7th at 8pm.
