Ballet Ireland are delighted to present their passionate production of ‘Carmen’ by choreographer-in-residence Morgann Runacre-Temple at The Source Arts Centre in Thurles on Thursday, December 19th (7pm).

‘Carmen’ tells a timeless provocative tale of lust, beauty and destruction played out against Bizet’s passionate score.

Ballet Ireland’s new production of this once scandalous story will see the tale of naïve soldier José and his Gypsy love told in a modern-day setting. Carmen is a character who has divided audiences for 150 years and this production will see Morgann asking whether this intelligent, independent, manipulator and siren is in fact a monster or a martyr.

Irish dancer Zoë Ashe-Browne plays the role of Carmen and the production will also feature John Walsh, Flamenco guitarist, peforming live on stage.

Ballet Ireland will be bringing this production of ‘Carmen’ to 19 venues across Ireland this autumn and the performance at The Source Arts Centre represents their final date on the tour. Indeed, it promises to be a truly magical night and the end of a very successful run of shows nationwide.

Ballet Ireland is Ireland’s only professional ballet company bringing new narrative-led ballets to Irish audiences each spring and autumn. The company was founded in 1998 and has been funded by the Arts Council of Ireland since 1999. To date the company has mounted 26 seasons of work and their activities have had a profound impact on the landscape of ballet in Ireland - see: www.balletireland.ie.

Tickets for ‘Carmen’ at The Source Arts Centre on Thursday, December 19th (7pm) are priced at €18 (€16 concession - €10 children).
